
What Do STs Do?
The duties of a speech therapist are entirely about helping improve the speech, language, and voice of those who have speech impairments. STs perform the following:
- Assess and evaluate the patient’s condition and needs
- Determine the extent of the communication problem of the patient
- Identify and develop treatment care plans
- Carry out treatment plans
- Teach patients how to make sounds and improve voices
- Teach alternative communication methods
- Coordinates with patients to improve their ability to read and write correctly
- Abet patients to develop and strengthen the muscles used to swallow
- Guide patients and families on how to cope with communication disorders
- Perform administrative tasks
What Are the Requirements?
For all interested applicants, you must comply with the following prerequisites:
- Master’s degree
- Completed required clinical experiences
- Must have current and valid Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP)
- Completed graduate work course and a clinical practicum at a college or university whose program is accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology (CAA)
- Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology and Hearing Aid Dispensers Board registered and licensed
